Economy Grows ! »

First-quarter growth stronger than forecast | Reuters

The economy grew at a slightly stronger pace than forecast as 2008 began, helped by inventory-building that tempered a steadily deteriorating housing sector and less vigorous consumer spending.

Bloomberg.com: U.S.

The U.S. economy expanded at a 0.6 percent annual pace in the first quarter, reflecting an increase in inventories as consumers retrenched and companies cut investment

The AP and Financial Times not happy as Newsbusters points out.

Economy grows at only 0.6 percentage point rate - Yahoo! News

The bruised economy limped through the first quarter of this year at a six-tenths of a percentage point growth rate as housing and credit problems forced people and businesses alike to hunker down.

FT.com / World - US economy avoids outright contraction

The US economy almost stalled in the first three months of this year, saved only by an increase in business inventories, as the labour market weakened, the real estate market slumped and consumers cut back on spending.

So let me get this straight, the media has almost gleefully been reporting we are in the grips of a recession but the economy actually expands?

AFP.com | Agence France-Presse, a global news agency

The US economy expanded at a sluggish 0.6 percent annual pace in the first quarter, the government said Wednesday in its first estimate of gross domestic product.

The Commerce Department report was slightly better than expected and came amid fears that the world’s biggest economy might be headed for recession, generally defined as two consecutive quarters of declining activity.

Karl Rove Destroys MSNBC’s Dan Abrams »

A letter from Karl Rove to MSNBC’s Dan Abrams addressing Abrams’ tabloid reporting accusing Rove of being behind former Alabama governor Don Siegelman being prosecuted.
.

I’ll clip the closing paragraph because it sums up MSNBC perfectly.

The Corner on National Review Online

The difficulty with your approach is you reduced yourself to the guy in the bar who repeats what the fellow next to him says – “The glove fits! The glove fits!” - only louder, because it suits your pre-selected story line (”Bush Justice”) and you don’t want the facts to get in the way of a good fable. You have relinquished the central responsibility of an investigative reporter, namely to press everyone in order to get to the facts. You didn’t subject the statements of others to skeptical and independent review. You have chosen instead to simply repeat something someone else says because it agrees with the theme line your producers slapped on your segment, created the nifty graphic for and promoted in the ads before your appearances.

Sincerely,

Karl Rove

Power Line: Karl Rove Responds

Of course the disgraced “ThinkProgress” refers to Rove’s letter to Abrams as a “diatribe” but does not dispute one fact put forward by Rove disputing MSNBC’s and Abrams disgraceful tabloid “reporting” of the prosecution of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman.

Read Newsbusters for the rundown and truth on the Siegelman.

UPDATE: Dan Abrams responds to Karl Rove’s letter with an open letter of his own on Huffington post.

Abrams tries to match Rove’s letter in quality and quantity but fails miserably at both.
Abrams attempts to claim his “neutrality” on the Siegelman case hoping nobody will notice he is taking his marching orders from left wing blogs like Talking Points Memo

More Cracking from the Nutroots »

Is this what the progressive arsenal has been reduced to?
Seems the latest McCain story is that he called his wife the “C” word !

And of course according the increasingly delusional nutroots this also means Republicans “really hate brown people and the poor and the gays and the disabled”

MyDD :: McCain Insulted Wife In Front of Press, Aides

We always knew that Republicans were jerks, but they often do such a good job of mugging for the cameras that it’s hard to get that story out to the public. Oh, come on, people say, do they really hate brown people and the poor and the gays and the disabled? Yeah, they do. But from Newt Gingrich to Rudi Giuliani, they also tend to hate on their wives, those lumps in the bed next to them, which I guess is just the natural consequence of being misogynist creeps. It’s also an easy point of character reference for the body politic, which is perhaps why the press has so delicately refrained from pointing out what terrible spouses so many of these wingnuts really are. And being a jerk in public to your spouse, humiliating them, the person who will put up with more crap from you than anyone in your life besides your parents, that’s just beyond the pale.

Are the nutrootls like MYDD really this stupid, claiming republicans as a whole are “terrible spouses”… to forget that one of their candidates is one of the most publicly cheated on woman in the world and the possible future “First Gentleman” is lying, cigar twirling philanderer.

And of course, Marcy Wheeler, one of the more pretentious, self righteous and arrogant snobs of the nutroot-O-sphere drags John McCain’s daughter into this.

Media Shuns GOP Veterans Running for Office »

Seems Republican Veterans running for office don’t fit the liberal main stream media agenda.

PoughkeepsieJournal.com - Lalor says Iraq veterans running for GOP are ignored

WASHINGTON — Peekskill resident Kieran Lalor says the 17 Republican congressional candidates who are Iraq veterans and support the war aren’t getting the attention they deserve in an election cycle dominated by the presidential race. The GOP field is three times as large as the group of six anti-war Iraq veterans who received national attention when they ran for Congress as Democrats two years ago, Lalor said.

One commentor on the article takes Democrat opportunist nutroot favorite John Hall to task;

John Hall has prided himself in working for the plight of veterans.

However, his support for the heroic Veterans seems somewhat questionable in the big picture. He supports Veterans yet undermines the effort of current military personnel by favoring immediate withdrawal in Iraq.

John Hall has failed to perform on his campaign promise to push for immediate withdrawal. Instead, he has been a puppet for left wing fringe groups who believe the Iraq war is the worse thing ever to happen in history by constantly passing on anti-war moveon.org talking points. Immediate Withdrawal is his mantra, yet only 20% of Americans favor such a hastily planned approach. Now, John Hall is moving a bit away from a cut and run mentality. This should upset some the left wing cut and run fanatics…

John Hall, like the rest of Democratic controlled congress, failed to end the war in Iraq. The war will continue and troops will be withdrawn, but like other parts of the world in which the U.S. toppled brutal dictators, the U.S. will remain there for a long time to come to ensure that the people of Iraq can experience liberty and freedom–not rape and torture rooms run by a tyrannical dictator.

So, if it was up to John Hall, a troop withdrawal would begin compromising the progress in Iraq. This would give way and make Iraq a bigger breeding ground for terrorism. John Hall likes cutting and running from tough situations that call for leadership and bravery in the ideal of liberty and freedom. His roots of cutting and running goes decades back to when he apparently dodged the draft…to become a ski instructor!

The credence of this story is questionable, however John Hall can answer whether or not he decided to teach skiing instead of rising to the call of duty and serving his Country (no matter how unjust the Vietnam may have been).

Duty. Honor, and Country. This is something John Hall knows little of…however he does know something about skiing apparently.
